Today, an event dedicated to the “World Day for Decent Work, marked on October 7, was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Opening the event, the Executive Director of the Institute, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Alamdar Mammadov, emphasized that this day is based on the principle of ensuring the right of every individual to decent work. He spoke about the measures taken at the Institute to improve working conditions for employees, equip laboratories with necessary instruments, and ensure safety. The Chair of the Trade Union Organization of the Institute, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Saadat Khudaverdiyeva, noted that the World Day for Decent Work, celebrated on October 7, has been observed since 2008 at the initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO). She emphasized that the concept of decent work encompasses four key aspects — employment, rights, protection, and dialogue. These aspects imply fair income, decent working conditions, equality among employees, dialogue between all workers and management, and access to social protection. In the Republic of Azerbaijan, decent work is recognized as one of the main objectives of national economic and social policies. To date, Azerbaijan has ratified nearly 60 conventions of the International Labour Organization. Together with the International Labour Organization, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs have developed and implemented two country programs on decent work. Work on the new third country program is ongoing. At the event, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Saftar Suleymanov, Doctor of Biological Sciences Hasan Babayev, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Mahira Mammadova, and the Head of the Institute’s Civil Defense Headquarters Mikayil Pashayev delivered speeches. Afterwards, discussions on the topic were held, and opinions and suggestions were heard.
