The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Agency for Science and Education, and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies (IMBB). Opening the conference, President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli emphasized the importance of holding such a prestigious event in Azerbaijan, noting that its theme aligns with the priorities of COP29, which Azerbaijan successfully hosted last year. He highlighted that COP29, held under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, reflects Azerbaijan’s contribution to the transition to a green economy and global efforts to combat climate change. Habibbayli noted that concepts such as “green energy,” “green technology,” and “green transformation” have become part of Azerbaijan’s reality, with green energy zones in Karabakh, East Zangezur, and Nakhchivan successfully operating. He underlined that Azerbaijan ranks among the global leaders in the use of alternative and renewable energy sources, thanks to both domestic resources and foreign investments. Speaking at the event, Professor Eminaga Sadigov, Acting Rector of Sumgayit State University, stressed that environmental and climate security are among today’s most pressing scientific and practical challenges, requiring global and interdisciplinary approaches. He highlighted the Ministry’s systematic efforts to raise the scientific and organizational standards of conferences and to integrate sustainable development principles into education. Conference co-chair Professor Rashad Karimov (Auburn University, USA) emphasized the multidisciplinary nature of the event, noting that complex global challenges cannot be solved within a single scientific field. Leading international scientists, including Professor Jamal Musayev (Emory University, USA), Professor Ali Naz (Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Germany), Professor Byeong-ha Lee (Sogang University, Korea), Professor Aziz Eftekhari (Ege University, Türkiye), and Professor Shahlo Miralimova (Institute of Microbiology, Uzbekistan), expressed gratitude to the organizers and praised the conference’s scientific value. Academician Irada Huseynova, Vice-President of ANAS and Director of IMBB, stated that the conference aims to develop strategies for scientific partnership, define future research priorities, and promote innovative solutions contributing to the transition toward green energy and environmental sustainability. She noted that the discussions and results presented will foster international collaboration and the establishment of joint projects and regional innovation centers. Huseynova also announced that the final day of the conference will include the “Jalal Aliyev Readings”, dedicated to the memory of the distinguished scientist and public figure, further enhancing the event’s scientific and moral value. Dedicated to the 80th anniversary of ANAS, the conference brought together over 140 researchers from 14 countries, becoming a significant platform for global scientific cooperation. Highlighting Azerbaijan’s advances in bioeconomy, green technologies, and biotechnological research, Huseynova noted that the “green zone” model in Karabakh and East Zangezur serves as a unique international example of energy and environmental security. She concluded by expressing confidence that the conference would strengthen scientific exchange, foster new partnerships, and contribute to sustainable development through innovative, multidisciplinary research.

The conference will continue until October 17.
