October 18 is the Day of Restoration of Independence
Oct 18, 2025 | 09:00 / Important events
October 18 is an unforgettable and proud day in the history of the Azerbaijani people. On this very day in 1991, our nation turned its dream of freedom into reality and restored its independence. It was the triumph of centuries-long struggle, the unshakable will, and the national unity of our people. With the adoption of the Constitutional Act on the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, our country regained its historical name and sovereignty.
As the National Leader Heydar Aliyev once said, “Independence is our greatest treasure.” Since 1991, Azerbaijan has strengthened its statehood traditions and gained a worthy place in the international community. Over these years, our country has achieved remarkable success in terms of political stability, economic progress, and international reputation.
For every Azerbaijani, independence means free breath, free thought, and a free future. Today, our tricolour flag waves proudly as a symbol of the freedom earned at the cost of thousands of martyrs’ blood.
October 18 also reminds the young generation of our national identity, loyalty to the Motherland, and the true value of freedom. Every year on this date, our people commemorate the restoration of independence with deep respect and express gratitude to the memory of our martyrs.
Our independence is the symbol of our existence, unity, and strength.
