Mahira Mammadova, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor and Head of the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Aygun Sadigova, a research fellow of the same laboratory, were on a scientific mission in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from October 7 to October 10, 2025. Within the framework of the mission, they met with the staff of the Institute of Bioresources of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and obtained detailed information about the systematics, ecological characteristics, and distribution area of the Rheum ribes plant. This plant is a perennial wild vegetable species found in the subregions of Northern and Central Asia, and its wild forms occur at altitudes of 1,800–2,800 meters in Iran, Turkey, and the Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan. Although this species is the only *Rheum* species geographically adapted to Azerbaijan, no systematic studies have been conducted on it so far. During the mission, field observations were carried out at an altitude of 2,000 meters in Yukhary Kyshlak village, Shahbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic; the natural habitat of the plant was studied, and specimens were collected. The next stage of morphological, physiological, and biotechnological studies on the collected specimens will be continued under laboratory conditions.
