“Today, we are stepping into a new era—the second ‘green revolution,’ which is environmentally clean and technologically efficient,” said Academician Irada Huseynova, Vice-President of ANAS and Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, at the presentation of the book “COP29: Global and National Challenges, Science Tasks” at ANAS. Academician Huseynova emphasized that COP29 has become historically significant not only for ecological and climate diplomacy but also as a platform for global scientific integration, knowledge exchange, and innovation. She noted that Azerbaijan’s hosting of this prominent event reflects the country’s growing influence in global ecosystem management, the “green transformation” course led by President Ilham Aliyev, and the deep integration of national science into state policy. She explained that the book compiles, analyzes, and synthesizes scientific and analytical works on the objectives, tasks, outcomes, and challenges of COP29, highlighting its strategic importance for both the national and global scientific community. Academician Huseynova pointed out that global climate change, biodiversity protection, and the security of water, food, and energy further increase the strategic responsibility of science, and the book provides valuable insights both theoretically and practically. She stressed the importance of ecological education, climate-conscious behavior, and active involvement of young scientists in the post-COP29 period. Huseynova highlighted that science has shifted from the stage of “science for knowledge” to “science for a sustainable future,” serving not only as an observer but also as a guiding, predictive, and decision-supporting force. The book systematically presents the numerous activities carried out at ANAS under the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and COP29, including over 30 books and monographs, and more than 50 scientific conferences, roundtables, seminars, and exhibitions. According to the academician, as emphasized in President Ilham Aliyev’s document “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development,” a development strategy based on a clean environment and a “green growth” model is a priority of state policy, with science serving as its fundamental pillar. “We believe that ANAS and other scientific institutions of the country will further strengthen scientific coordination in this area, integrating the scientific legacy of COP29 into our nation’s ecological security and innovative development strategy,” Academician Irada Huseynova added.
