Results of the research conducted by the Laboratory of Biomolecular Structure, Dynamics and Function of the Institute of Molecular Biology under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been published in the Q1-ranked (first quartile) Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics. The study was carried out by the young scientists of the laboratory, Aytaj Mammadova and Matanat Bakhishova, under the supervision of the head of the laboratory, Professor Oktay Gasimov. The article is entitled “Mapping binding sites of human serum albumin and its nanoparticles: I. Hydrophobicity profile of binding sites” and presents the characteristics of ligand-binding sites of Human Serum Albumin (HSA) and HSA nanoparticles, which are widely used as carriers for anticancer drugs. Overall, the results provide a new conceptual framework explaining multiple ligand binding in HSA and their redistribution between different sites through an allosteric “population-shift” mechanism.
