The event, titled “Azerbaijan’s Role in the Global Urban Agenda: Sustainable Urban Development, Smart Cities, and Green Growth Initiatives,” aimed to discuss urbanization, sustainable development, environmental protection, and scientific approaches in this field. The event was opened with an introductory speech by the Institute’s Scientific Secretary, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Associate Professor Durna Aliyeva, who spoke about the importance of the event. In her speech, she referred to the relevant decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and provided detailed information about the implementation of the sustainable development strategy in the country, improvements in the urban environment, and efforts to preserve ecological balance. It was noted that such international initiatives serve as an important platform for the scientific community to discuss pressing issues. Later, corresponding members of ANAS Novruz Guliyev and Ibrahim Azizov, Doctor of Biological Sciences Hasan Babayev, PhDs Afig Mammadov, Alamdar Mammadov, Agil Ahmadli, and researcher Aygun Sadigova shared their views on the impact of urbanization on the environment, biodiversity conservation, and the role of science in modern urban planning approaches. It was emphasized that in the context of rapid urbanization, solving environmental problems is only possible through comprehensive scientific approaches and the application of innovative technologies. The speakers also addressed key issues such as the sustainability of urban ecosystems, the effects of climate change, and the impact of anthropogenic factors on the natural environment. It was noted that the development and implementation of scientifically grounded approaches are essential for maintaining ecological balance in urban areas. At the end of the event, participants exchanged views, answered questions, and emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in this field. It was highlighted that such events play a significant role in the exchange of scientific knowledge and in addressing current challenges.
