On April 28, 2026, a general meeting dedicated to the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The meeting was organized by the Primary Trade Union Organization of the Institute. In her speech, the Chairperson of the Trade Union Organization of the Institute, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Saadat Khudaverdiyeva noted that the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” was established by the International Labour Organization (ILO). As a specialized agency of the United Nations, the ILO’s main mission is to contribute to the promotion of social and economic justice through the development of international labour standards. The standards set by the ILO are aimed at ensuring accessible, productive, and sustainable employment under conditions of freedom, equality, security, and dignity worldwide. These standards are reflected in 189 conventions and international instruments, eight of which are considered fundamental according to the 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. These documents aim to regulate labour relations and eliminate forced labour, child labour, and discrimination in employment. S. Khudaverdiyeva also provided detailed information on the annual themes designated within the framework of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work since 2003. It was noted that the theme announced by the ILO for 2026 is “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Work Environment.” At the meeting, Doctors of Biological Sciences Yashar Feyziyev and Hasan Babayev, PhDs in Biology, Associate Professors Alamdar Mammadov and Mursal Dadashov, as well as Chief Specialist Elchin Abdullayev delivered speeches. Views on the topic were exchanged, and questions were addressed.
