On May 26, an event dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Motherland. Afterwards, a video dedicated to Independence Day was screened.

At the event, the Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Molecular Biology, Associate Professor Durna Aliyeva, PhD in Biology, spoke about the establishment and historical significance of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, as well as the growing prestige of independent Azerbaijan in the region and in the international arena. She noted that the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918, the first democratic and parliamentary republic in the Muslim East, marked the beginning of a new stage in the life of our people. Despite existing for only 23 months, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic played an important role in laying the foundations of our independent statehood.

During the event, corresponding members of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov and Panah Muradov, Doctor of Biological Sciences Konul Bakhshaliyeva, PhDs in Biology Alamdar Mammadov and Taliyya Orujova, and HR specialist Mehriban Ahmadova spoke about the reforms implemented during the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the historic contributions of the leaders of the Republic to the formation of national statehood traditions. It was noted that the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is one of the most glorious and honorable pages in the history of our statehood.

The speakers also highlighted the glorious Victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and stated that Azerbaijan fully restored its state sovereignty in 2023.

The speeches also emphasized the significant services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev in preserving and restoring Azerbaijan’s state independence. It was noted that the restoration of state independence is a great event in the history of our people. Independence Day was described as a source of pride for every Azerbaijani and a symbol of national unity. It was stressed that preserving the state independence achieved through great struggles and passing it on to future generations is the sacred duty for all of us.
