Researchers from the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the Gobustan Regional Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry within the framework of scientific research activities. During the mission, phenological observations were carried out on nearly 200 wheat genotypes cultivated under field conditions, as well as on samples included in varietal trials, for the purpose of conducting genome-wide association studies. The developmental stages of the plants, their overall vegetative condition, transition to the flowering phase, and the presence or absence of stress symptoms were assessed. Due to the rainy weather conditions during the current season, drought conditions had not yet developed in the field. Measurements performed using a specialized device showed that soil moisture was approximately 75%, indicating the presence of a favorable moisture regime for normal plant development. Observations also revealed that hybrid materials and backcrossing products obtained using German-origin genotypes demonstrated good overall growth and development. At the same time, certain delays in phenological development were recorded among some German-origin genotypes. The conducted phenological observations were important for evaluating the adaptation characteristics, developmental dynamics, and breeding potential of wheat genotypes under the environmental conditions of Gobustan.
