On June 5, an event dedicated to the “Human Rights Month” was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education.
Chairperson of the Institute’s Trade Union Organization, PhD in Biology Saadat Khudaverdiyeva, provided information on the reforms and measures implemented in Azerbaijan in the field of human rights protection. It was noted that on June 18, 1998, National Leader Heydar Aliyev approved the first “State Program on the Protection of Human Rights” in Azerbaijan, defining the protection of human rights as one of the main directions of state policy. By the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007, June 18 was established as Human Rights Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Khudaverdiyeva also emphasized that, traditionally, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan declares the period from May 18 to June 18 as “Human Rights Month” throughout the country ahead of this significant day every year. It was highlighted that various events dedicated to human rights are organized in the capital and regions within the framework of the “Human Rights Month,” and this initiative has already become a tradition. The aim is to increase public awareness of human rights and promote activities related to their protection.
During the event, Corresponding Member of ANAS Panah Muradov, PhD in Physics Rasim Aslanov, and HR specialist Mehriban Ahmadova delivered speeches on the topic and spoke about the measures implemented in Azerbaijan to protect and promote the rights of citizens. The speeches addressed issues such as the promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms, the close connection between the urban environment and human rights, early marriage, the fight against drug addiction, domestic violence, and other related topics.
It was emphasized that every citizen should know their rights and respect the rights of others.
