On June 12, an event dedicated to June 15 - National Salvation Day was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the MSE RA.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by the screening of a video dedicated to National Salvation Day.

Speaking at the event, the Institute’s Scientific Secretary, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Durna Aliyeva, noted that June 15 -National Salvation Day occupies a special place in the modern history of Azerbaijani statehood and has significant political and historical importance. She spoke about the outstanding services rendered by National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the Azerbaijani people and state. She emphasized that in 1993, against the backdrop of the continuing occupation of Azerbaijani territories by the Armenian armed forces, the severe socio-political situation in the country, the economic crisis, chaos, and anarchy, Azerbaijan’s independence and statehood faced the threat of collapse. During this difficult period, the people saw the return of the great leader Heydar Aliyev to power as the only realistic way to save the country.

On June 9, 1993, responding to the call of the people, National Leader Heydar Aliyev arrived in Baku from Nakhchivan. Following his return to power, socio-political stability was restored in the country, illegal armed groups were neutralized, Azerbaijani statehood was saved from destruction, and the foundations of a legal and democratic state were laid. Owing to Heydar Aliyev’s political wisdom, extensive experience in public administration, determination, and tireless efforts, Azerbaijan’s future development strategy was defined, the first important steps in this direction were taken, and reforms paving the way for socio-economic revival were launched.

At the event, Corresponding Members of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov and Novruz Guliyev, PhD in Biology Vafa Hasanova, researcher Gunay Ismayilova, and junior researcher Sevda Mahmudova spoke about the National Leader’s mission in saving the country and his historic contributions to Azerbaijan’s development.

The speakers discussed the chaos and anarchy that prevailed in the republic in 1993, the civil confrontation, the worsening socio-political situation, and the deepening socio-economic crisis. They emphasized that June 15 - National Salvation Day is a glorious page in the history of Azerbaijani statehood. It was noted that National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power in 1993 at the persistent request of the people, entered history as the savior of Azerbaijan’s independence. This historic return rescued the country from political turmoil, fragmentation, the loss of independence, and civil war. June 15 is regarded as a turning point in the history of Azerbaijani statehood.

The speakers further stressed that the prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev played an exceptional role in preserving and strengthening Azerbaijan’s independence. National Salvation Day has been inscribed in the country’s history in golden letters. Modern independent Azerbaijan, built on solid foundations, is today successfully developing under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the worthy successor of the National Leader’s political course. Preserving the independent Azerbaijan and the statehood legacy entrusted to us by the National Leader remains a sacred civic duty for every Azerbaijani citizen.
