Today marks the 65th birthday of Mahira Mammadova, Head of the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Laboratory at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Associate Professor and PhD in Biology. Mahira Mammadova was born on June 30, 1961, in the city of Guba, Azerbaijan. She graduated from Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University). She defended her PhD dissertation in the field of plant physiology and has devoted many years to productive scientific research in plant physiology and biotechnology. She is the author of 128 scientific publications. Among her major scientific achievements are the propagation of durum wheat genotypes through cell and tissue culture techniques, investigations into the genetic basis of morphogenesis, regeneration, and somaclonal variation, and the development of valuable regenerated plants for breeding programs. Mahira Mammadova has investigated the mechanisms of adaptation of wheat genotypes to high-temperature and salt stress at both the cellular and whole-plant levels under in vivo and in vitro conditions. She has developed biotechnological approaches for obtaining stress-tolerant cell lines and regenerated plants. Furthermore, she has studied protein expression, proline biosynthesis, and other adaptive responses under stress conditions, proposing methodological approaches for evaluating the stress tolerance potential of different genotypes. In addition to her professionalism, Mahira Mammadova has earned the sincere respect of her colleagues through her outstanding personal qualities, her dedication to mentoring young researchers, and her constant willingness to provide support and guidance.
