August 1 is celebrated in the Republic of Azerbaijan as Azerbaijani Alphabet and Azerbaijani Language Day. This significant day was established by the Decree of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 9, 2001. The decree ensured the country's full transition to the Azerbaijani alphabet based on the Latin script, marking an important milestone in the cultural and public life of independent Azerbaijan.

The main objectives of this commemorative day are to preserve and strengthen the status of the Azerbaijani language as the state language, promote the purity, richness, and development of our native language, foster love and respect for the Azerbaijani language among the younger generation, and encourage the proper use and application of the Azerbaijani alphabet based on the Latin script.

In accordance with various decrees and orders signed by President Ilham Aliyev, significant measures have been implemented to preserve the purity of the Azerbaijani language, support its development, and enhance its international prestige.
