GFIFS Newsletter Highlights Cooperation between the Institute of Molecular Biology and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences Sep 10, 2026 | 17:40 / Important events

Professor Ali Ahmad Naz of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Germany, has published an article in the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security (GFIFS) Newsletter highlighting cooperation with the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The article focuses on joint research conducted within the framework of the Germany–Azerbaijan partnership to develop wheat varieties resilient to climate change. The main objective of the research is to study genetic diversity from different geographical regions, assess it using modern genetic and genomic approaches, and use it in breeding programmes to improve wheat resilience to drought, high temperatures and other stress factors.

The article notes that Azerbaijan possesses important genetic resources due to its rich agrobiodiversity and diverse ecological conditions. Combining the scientific expertise and genetic resources of Germany and Azerbaijan could contribute to developing a new generation of wheat varieties with higher, more stable and sustainable yields, as well as to global food security.

The research also aims to share the results and genetic resources obtained with the international scientific community and contribute to global initiatives supported by the Crop Trust.
