Researcher of the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute of USA, renowned scientist in the field of bioinformatics Asaf Salamov’s scientific seminar on “Genome of mushroom and algae” was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. The seminar was attended by employees of various institutes of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, doctoral and master students, students of Baku State University. Asaf Salamov is one of our scientists who worthily represents Azerbaijan abroad. A. Salamov, a graduate of the physics faculty of the Azerbaijan State University, began his scientific activity in a laboratory led by academician Jalal Aliyev, he conducted research at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, defended his thesis here. He worked in the mathematical modeling group at the Botany Institute of ANAS in 1991-1993. Later he continued his scientific activity in Baylor College of Medicine located in Texas, Helix Research Institute in Japan, Senger Institute in Cambridge and biotechnology company in San Francisco. He has been working at the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute of USA since 2002. He was a participant of the international project on “Human genome”. The fields he is engaged are mathematics, the study of the application of computer science to molecular biology and, mainly macromolecules. He is also included in the list of 3215 scholars from around the world, which is internationally recognized and most cited in scientific articles published by Thompson Reuters. Asaf Salamov is one of the most-cited scientists in the field of chemistry-biology and biology, as well plant and zoological sciences. He is an author of more than 100 articles. Many articles of the scientist have been published in such prestigious, high-impact journals in the world as Nature and Science.
