An event dedicated to Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS. The event began with a minute of silence on the memories of the victims of the tragedy. Deputy director on scientific affairs of the institue, PhD Alamdar Mammadov said that the Khojaly genocide was the bloodiest manifestation of the hatred of Armenians against the Azerbaijanis. On February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces, together with the 366th Motorized Rifle regiment of Soviet troops, stationed in Khankendi, committed an act of genocide against the population of the Azerbaijani town, Khojaly. As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people were killed in the massacre. Eight families were totally exterminated, 130 children lost one parent and 25 children lost both. Some 1,275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.

Other speakers said that the terrible crime was a vicious crime against humanity, an act of terrorism. They spoke about the measures taken by our government and the public to recognize this tragedy as genocide.
