On May 30, with the organizational support of the Azerbaijan Medical University, the First International Online Conference "Human Genetics and Genetic Diseases: Problems and Development Prospects" was held for the first time in the country.

Director of the Institute of Genetic Resources, corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Akperov made a speech at the opening ceremony of the international event.

He emphasized the importance of the event from the point of view of discussing the structure and functions of the human genetic material, the molecular basis of hereditary variation, the mechanisms of transmission of hereditary diseases from generation to generation, and also wished success in the work of the conference.

Z. Akperov spoke about the research work carried out by the staff of the Laboratory “Human Genetics”, which operates under the Department of Biotechnology of the Institute, and about the main areas of activity of this laboratory.

The conference was also attended by Deputy Director of the Institute for Science, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Mehraj Abbasov, head of the Laboratory of Human Genetics Bayram Bayramov and a leading scientific researcher of the Laboratory, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor Orkhan Isayev, a leading researcher of the Department of Biochemistry, PhD in Biology Saltanat Aghayeva, head of the Department of International Relations, Information and Media, PhD in Biology Ayaz Mammadov.

At the online event, the lectures of B. Bayramov on “Liquid biopsies in colorectal cancer: circulating cancer cells and circulating DNA”, O. Isayeva on “Cancer stem cells of the pancreas and potential connection with retinoid receptors” and S. Agayeva on the topic “Molecular genetic study of gene mutations in patients with hereditary muscular dystrophy” were listened.
