New robotic skin reacts to touch Jul 17, 2020 | 13:35 / Interesting information

Scientists from Singapore introduced artificial leather that detects touch with almost 100% accuracy. The development will improve the device of robots that care for patients.

Using an Intel neuromorphic chip, scientists at the National University of Singapore (NUS) have developed artificial skin that allows robots to detect touch a thousand times faster than the human sensory system. She is also able to determine the shape, texture and hardness of objects ten times faster than analogues. The researchers believe that their development could improve human-robot interaction, improve aspects such as robotic surgery or patient care.
