On June 20-21 scientific conference on "New Challenges in Botanical Studies" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of academic Vahid Hajiyev, organized jointly by the Institute of Botany of ANAS and Azerbaijan Botanical Society, was held.

Reports on "Plant systematics, evolution and diversity", "Mycological researches: diversity, systematics and evolution", "Plant resources and ways of efficiently using", " Physiology, biochemistry and biophysics of plants", "Environment and ecosystem researches" and "Interdisciplinary Studies" were listened and discussions were held in the conference lasted for two days.

 Samra Mirzayeva, young researcher of the Laboratory of Bioadaptation at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies gave a report on "The study of some physiological indicators on the leaves of tomato infected with tobacco mosaic".

The reporter informed about the detection of RNA and DNA genomic viruses infecting tomato for the first time in Azerbaijan and their mixed forms as a result of diagnosis and identification of viral diseases by serological and molecular methods in tomato and vegetable crops cultivated in greenhouses and field conditions of different regions in Azerbaijan.

Sadigova Elnara, laboratory assistant of the laboratory of Plant Biotechnology gave a report on "Selection of antibiotics for the chemical therapy of the single-eye cuttings of Shirvan-Shahi grape variety”. Reporter emphasized the importance of selecting and microclonal reproduction of Shirvan - Shahi grape variety.

Junior researcher of the laboratory of Photochemistry of Chloroplasts Konul Tagiyeva gave a report on “Influence of various concentrations of NaCl salt on germinating of wheat and corn seeds and effects on the number of photosynthesis pigments in seeds” and emphasized the importance of conducted researches in the direction of increasing stress resistance of plants.
Laboratory assistant of the laboratory of Plant Biotechnology Gunay Ismayilova, Laboratory assistant of the laboratory of Bioadaptation Gulnar Abdullayeva and junior researcher of the laboratory of Photobioenergetics Ulviyya Valiyeva presented their posters to the conference participants. At the end of the conference, young researchers were awarded certificates and honorary degrees.
