Research directions of the laboratory:

Study of mechanisms of regulation of photosynthesis enzymes depending on environmental factors and daily rhythm in plants related to different pathways of photosynthetic assimilation of carbon

Main scientific achievements:

  • Based on the study of the activity, protein amount and gene expression change dynamics of enzymes involved in the primary assimilation of carbon in some types of grains belonging to the C3 pathway of photosynthesis, it was shown that they play an important role in the stabilization of the rate of photosynthetic assimilation of CO2 and in the adaptation of plants against adverse environmental factors.
  • For the first time, the species Sedum caucasicum, considered endemic to the Caucasian flora, was found to be an obligate CAM plant.
  • Enzymes involved in malate metabolism were comparatively studied in C3 and C4 plants.
  • The structural-functional organization of the carbonic anhydrase enzyme in higher plants was studied in detail. For the first time, the carbonic anhydrase enzyme isolated from the leaves of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) was crystallized and the molecular model of its quaternary structure was proposed.
