An online meeting of the AzScienceNet Scientific Computer Network Management Council of the ANAS Institute of Information Technology was held.

Opening the event, ANAS Vice-President, Director of the Institute academician Rasim Alguliyev said that the meeting was dedicated to discussing issues related to finding solutions to problems that exist in the activities of the AzScienceNet network, conducting reforms in the network, strengthening its material and technical base, as well as staff training.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted the importance of the AzScienceNet network both in our country and abroad, and stressed that it is necessary to pay attention to its development and problem solving. Saying that the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev attaches particular importance to the development of the AzScienceNet network, the scientist added that he considers it necessary for each employee to participate in the implementation of tasks aimed at developing the network.

The academic said that in order to expand the technical capabilities and infrastructure of AzScienceNet, a new network development concept and action plan should be developed in a short time. According to Rasim Alguliyev, one of the pressing issues is also the expansion of the network of their scientific activities by the employees of the network and participation in international grant projects.

Then, Deputy Director of the Institute for Technology, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov spoke about the work done on AzScienceNet in the first half of 2020. He noted that the continuous activity of the scientific computer network AzScienceNet was organized, which provides the necessary Internet services to scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, as well as ensures the integration of scientific and educational structures of the republic into the European Scientific and Educational Network (GEANT).

According to him, during 6 months of the current year, 30 new computers of ANAS institutes and organizations were connected to the AzScienceNet network, a data storage device with 140 TB memory was installed in the data center of the AzScienceNet network.

The deputy director emphasized that to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the AzScienceNet network during the pandemic, a working group was created, which included employees of the institute. He said that during the special quarantine regime announced in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in March-April of this year, the Working Group carried out its activities on the principle of duty.

Rashid Alakbarov also added that the Institute’s staff provided technical support for the videoconference, which was held on April 21, 2020 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, with organizational support from the International Turkic Academy.

The meeting also discussed issues related to the 50th anniversary of the institute and the 40th anniversary of the AzScienceNet network in 2021, relevant instructions were given.
